In the last few days , Vishay has announced the expansion of its electromagnetic coil-based IHPT haptic feedback actuator product line with five new devices, offering a wider range of sizes and force levels. These new products are licensed by Immersion Corporation and are optimized for human-machine interface (HMI) systems in automotive and commercial applications, including LCD displays, touch screens, touch switches, and button control panels. Powered by 12V, these actuators deliver high-definition (HD) haptic feedback, significantly enhancing user interaction experience.
The newly launched IHPT actuators are available in four sizes, ranging from 29mm x 21mm to 44mm x 37mm, with force outputs up to 120N. Their compact two-piece structure includes mounting holes for easy installation and direct force application. Notably, these actuators feature a response time of only 5 milliseconds and operate at voltages between 8V and 16V, making them ideal for noisy environments where audio signals may not effectively convey operational feedback.
IHPT actuators excel in scenarios requiring rapid feedback, such as automotive dashboards, central control consoles, electronic shift systems, and steering wheels. The AEC-Q200 compliant IHPT1411AFELR73ABA is particularly suited for automotive control devices, providing reliable haptic feedback for demanding automotive functions. Other models, such as IHPT1207AGELR39AB0, IHPT1710ACEL1R2AB0, IHPT1411AFELR73AB0, and IHPT1614ACEL2R7BB0, are primarily used in factory automation, consumer electronics, entertainment systems, medical devices, and military equipment.
Compared to other haptic feedback technologies, such as linear resonant, linear broadband, eccentric rotating mass, and piezoelectric actuators, these devices offer significant advantages. The IHPT series operates at a nominal voltage of 12V, eliminating the need for high-voltage circuits and reducing component height and system cost. Additionally, the built-in Immersion license simplifies the design process, eliminating the need for separate licensing purchases and significantly lowering development costs.
IHPT actuators can drive a 0.5 kg load with a 6g acceleration using a 12V, 5-millisecond pulse. The inductance of the drive coil can be as low as 1.8mH, with a typical DC resistance (DCR) of 0.95Ω and an insulation withstand voltage of 150VDC. Vishay also offers customization options to adjust size, shape, core material, coil turns, and terminal types according to design requirements, catering to various application needs.
