The 74HC4051D has three digital select inputs (S0 to S2) and an active LOW enable input (EN), and is equipped with eight independent input/output ports (Y0 to Y7) and a common input/output port (Z). When the enable input is LOW, S0 to S2 are used to select one of the eight switches into a low impedance state. When the enable input is HIGH, all switches are in the high impedance state. The analogue input/output ports can fluctuate between the positive limit of VCC and the negative limit of VEE. If used for a digital multiplexer/demultiplexer, VEE needs to be connected to GND.
