Vishay Intertechnology recently introduced a new series of surface mount industrial-grade TRANSZORB® and automotive-grade PAR® transient voltage suppressors (TVS) in the DFN3820A low profile package. These devices feature a compact form factor, low profile, and wettable sides, providing a space-saving solution for automotive, computer, consumer, and industrial applications. This means that at 10/1000 μs, these TVS devices have up to 600 W peak pulse power and low leakage currents down to 1 μA.
The introduction of the DFN3820A package marks the debut of Vishay's new power DFN family. The package features a compact footprint and ultra-low typical height, allowing Vishay General Semiconductor TVSs to make more efficient use of PCB space. In addition, the DFN3820A is compatible with the SMP (DO-220AA) package, 85 percent smaller than the SMB (DO-214AA) package and 42 percent smaller than the SlimSMAW (DO-221AD) package. Despite their smaller size, they are able to maintain a peak pulse power of 600 W in the 10/1000 μs waveform.
These newly released TVS devices are designed to protect sensitive electronic equipment from transient voltages caused by switching inductive loads and lightning. Among them, the 6DFNxxA and 6DFNxxxCA TRANSZORB TVS will be used in industrial applications such as industrial robotics control boards, process/flow control instrumentation, and automation systems, as well as for signal line protection in computer and consumer applications such as server power modules, digital media controllers, and AV signal expanders.
On the other hand, the T6NxxA and T6NxxxCA PAR TVS are AEC-Q101 compliant and can operate at high temperatures up to +185 °C for automotive load dump protection. They have a wide range of applications in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), battery management (BMS), electric power steering (EPS) and infotainment systems, central control units, on-board chargers (OBCs), DC/DC converters and traction inverters, motor drives, and more.
These TVS devices offer excellent clamping capability with maximum clamping voltages ranging from 16.7 V to 137 V. They are also available in the DFN3850, DFN3850, DFN3850, DFN3850, and DFN3850. In addition, their DFN3820A package has wettable sides for automatic optical inspection, eliminating the need for X-ray inspection. With an MSL humidity sensitivity of 1 and a maximum peak LF of 260 °C according to J-STD-020, these rectifiers are ideally suited for automated placement. Best of all, these devices are RoHS compliant, halogen free, with tinned matte leads that meet JESD 201 Level 2 whisker test standards.
